PAIN
Back in February I had some foot pain that let up a little, but now it is back with a vengeance. Ever since our 16 mile Saturday I have had increasing heel pain. I have tried every shoe Fleet Feet recommended plus a few others. I have tried with and without inserts. No, of course, I haven't had it checked out by anyone. I am a nurse, and we are a stubborn breed. I am OK during the week, but on Saturdays the pain gets intense. It is showing up earlier in our distances than it was also. Saturday I only made it about 10 miles before it was really painful. I hope that taking it easy these last 3 weeks will help me make it through the 26.2 miles. I will take any suggestions offered. Thanks

Sinking feeling!
Needless to say the heat is not my friend. It is extremely hard for me to consider getting outside at any time of the day. I seem to be getting slower and slower, and my endurance is dropping. What is up? I stay hydrated for sure. I drink water all day every day. My friends think that I am crazy for attempting this feat, especially now. Where's the encouraging group of friends that Onetta has? Maybe, I could borrow a few.
On a brighter note, I am enjoying the yoga class. I am so inflexible that I laugh at myself sometimes. A friend of mine often calls after the class and asks if I am tied into a pretzel? Again, such encouragement. It is pretty funny though.
I had decided that I was going to do my 9 miles at the reservoir this Saturday because I hate the traffic in Clinton. However, since my motivation is so low right now, I think it is best for me to meet the group on Saturday morning. See you all then.

16 miles....WOW
Surprisingly I feel pretty good after the wog today. Thank goodness for cooler temps. What a difference it makes. I did get a blister on both of my feet. That's a first. Any suggestions for quick healing?
Well, I'm off to pick out a new kitchen faucet and garbage disposal. Have great day everyone!

Sneaky, sneaky!
I thought I was cheating yesterday when I cut off the return trip to the Craft Center, but apparently I got at least 8 miles in. I know I still cheated, but I am having heel issues. Yesterday was the worst time. Both my heel are a sore, but my right heel was painful yesterday. Anybody got any ideas. I iced yesterday afternoon, and I always seem to be taking advil or aleve for some reason. Oh well, I am still able to amble around so I will keep going.
What a surprise to see Robin running yesterday! I even heard a few groans and moans as she was in my area. That makes me feel much better about my groans and moans.
I watched the video of the marathon course early last week. Thankfully it looks very flat, but it is loooooong. I may need to put a flashlight in my fuel belt since I may not finish until dark.
Ramble, ramble, ramble. So I'll quit now. Have a great week everyone.

I made it!
I did my half marathon this am. I got up and started at 4am to beat the heat. Had a pretty slow time because my shins and calves hurt really bad for the first 4 miles. Also, my feet have been swollen up like overstuffed sausages all week. Can salt water leech into my feet through the skin? Just kidding!
Anyway, have a great run tomorrow. If I can do it, anybody can. Plus you all have the group to keep you going. I hope to make it to the party Saturday night. If not see you all on the next group run.

Genetics.....so unfair!
I am sitting on the balcony listening to the ocean. What bliss! Enough of that... I just had to rub it in a little. I got up this am and did my hour wog. It is very humid and hot this morning. Supposed to rain all week. My luck it will (especially after the above comment re: rubbing it in).
On my journey this morning , I was revisiting Saturdays group run. Did Scotty blow by any of the rest of you as if your were standing still? His one stride equals about 4 of mine. What is up with that? Genetics is such an unfair advantage(or disadvantage in my case).
I hope everyone has an excellent week. I am going to take Thursday off and do my half marathon on Friday at the butt crack of dawn. I may wake someone up and let them drive me 13.1 miles away and drop me off. That way I am sure to get in the whole distance.
Later,
Laurie

HAH....as in Hot as Hell
I think the devil is trying to get me to quit training. What is with the heat? It is only June. In a couple of weeks we will all be puddles sloshing our way through the miles. Hopefully a few pounds will melt off this big girl.
Anyhoo, it is official. I have proclaimed myself the laziest blogger. It just doesn't seem to be my thing.
I have heard myself say several times this week, "I only have to do 6 miles this weekend." How great does that statement make me feel? I am still slow (snail-like), but I walked/jogged 12 miles willingly. Unbelievable.
I am leaving for the beach after our run on Saturday to celebrate the big 40 so I plan on running my 13.2 miles next Friday. Hopefully the sound of the ocean and the sight of all the tiny people in swimsuits will motivate me. It is so much easier when surrounded by our great group.
No more rambling for now. I will try to blog in another month or so. See you all Saturday for our short run.

Unfortunately, I will miss the group run on Saturday. I am going to Jackson, TN, for a 1 year olds birthday party. One of my best friends had her second baby on her own birthday. I told her on she could no longer claim that as her birthday because all the attention will forever be on baby Nelson. I can't wait to see them.Enough of that rambling. I will be sure to get in a long run on Sunday and will rejoin the group on the 19th. Have a great run everybody!

a little freaked out...
That's how I feel about the Cannon Ball Run. I know the distance won't be a problem, but it's a RACE. I am not at all competitive in the sporting world. I hope I can rise to the occasion.

My first wog!
Good for me, you say. Well considering that I do not jog/run, it is great for me. I know, I know....I started a week later than initially instructed, but I did it. Now let me tell you all how it went. A couple of weeks ago I went and bought an Ironman Triathlon watch. Somehow I managed to set the interval at 1:3 the day of purchase. Yes, I realize that is flip-flopped from the rest of your intervals, but the watch frustrated me. Fast forward to today. I come home from work and decide to try the new watch out in the beautiful, slightly warm weather. Instead of frustrating myself further trying to reset the watch, I decide maybe I (the non-runner) should give the 1 minute jog, 3 minute walk routine a try. So out to the Palisades boat launch I go. I stretch for oh about 1 minute (one challenge at a time here people), and hit the trail. Now I make it jogging 1 minute without falling out, and the 3 minutes kick in. I find that I can recover from jogging in about 1 1/2 minutes. Of course that leaves me 1 1/2 minutes of the pure joy of walking normally. Herein lies the problem. I now have to face the challenge of resetting the ^$&*@%# watch to 1:2 intervals. Anyhoo, I hope I will be resetting my friendly watch often as my stamina increases.
See you all Saturday morning in my neck of the woods.
Proud to be upright

Mully grubs.........
I have the mully grubs this week. Work is yuck, and I haven't walked but 2 days. Also, this blogging thing weighs on my mind. This is only my 6th post since the beginning. I faithfully read everyones blogs, but I can't get into the swing of contributing my own. I will get back on track with my training. Tomorrow, if the large hail that is predicted by Barbie is not falling, I will see you all at the Rez and the Run From The Sun.

Missed the good weather today, so I ended up at the gym during the rain. Of course all the treadmills were taken, so I biked for 30minutes. I will do my walking tomorrow. I am a rule follower so switching my days irks me. I guess as long as I am moving in some fashion, right?
I find myself asking what would a marathoner do quite often. I hope I am making the right choices. My eating habits leave a lot to be desired. I think it is from years of shift work. I don't make the time to plan my meals so I end up eating whatever is available. Luckily, I am a big fan of veggies. I don't eat fish (or any seafood) for that matter. I will try to stick with the other superfoods.
Happy training to you all.

Day 1 of missed training.
Well, I didn't XT yseterday, and I feel guilty. It is the first day that I've missed since this whole thing started. I guess the fact that I feel guilty is an improvement over my old exercise habits.
I am really looking forward to the nutrition meeting Saturday. It is always more serious when someone else tells you to eat right.
See you all Saturday.

Blogging is good for you. Blogging is good for you. Blogging is good for you. One of my many new mantras.
I am not so sure I have the right shoes. I seem to have sore feet and shins more often than with my old shoes. I am not much of a stretcher so I am looking forward to Saturday's information.

Can't get the hang of this blogging
What a beautiful day to be outside. I just came in from a 35 minute walk around the neighborhood. So far the schedule has worked for me. I am really enjoying this new desire that I have to train for this crazy goal. Wish the weather would stay in the 60's or 70's because it sure is fun being outside.
See you all Saturday. Keep up the good work!

Well, I'm a blogger now. When will I be a runner? I have NEVER run in my life. I was encouraged this morning by the large number of people on the group run. Certainly there is someone else out there that has never run before. I have been walking diligently for several months, and still don't feel like I am ready to be a wogger.
I will continue on the schedule and look forward to my first wog.
